Octreotide is a synthetic peptide ring on the eight compounds, with similar natural endogenous role, but the role of strong and durable, long half-life 30 times higher than natural somatostatin. There are a variety of biological activity of octreotide, octreotide can reduce gastric motility and gallbladder emptying, inhibition of gallbladder emptying, inhibition of cholecystokinin secretion of a pancreatic hormone secretion, reducing pancreatic secretion of pancreatic cell membrane has a direct protective effect. Octreotide inhibits gastrointestinal transit and reduce visceral blood flow and lower portal pressure and reduce the excessive secretion of intestinal tract and may enhance intestinal water and Na 'absorption.
