In summer, many people like to drink ice water, feeling thirst-quenching and refreshing. However, they haven’t realized that such a habit may cause certain harm to their health. As a result, it’s very important for us to know how to drink water properly in summer.

Firstly, it is best to drink warm water.
On the one hand, drinking too much cold drink may cause gastrointestinal discomfort or cramps or even diarrhea. On the contrary, there are some people who like to drink hot water. Too hot food or drink in the esophagus may cause damage to the esophageal mucosa and stimulate mucosal proliferation, and in turn may result in esophageal cancer. Therefore, the water temperature should neither too hot nor too cold. The most suitable temperature is 10 to 30 Celsius degrees.

Secondly, drink water as slowly as possible.
When feeling thirsty, many people always drink water like a fish. However, they haven’t realized that this way of drinking is not good for their health and may cause serious consequences to the body. Firstly, sudden and large amount of water at one time will quickly dilute the blood, and increase the burden on the heart. The situation will be much more serious if it happens after exercises. Secondly, when you sweat a lot in extremely hot days, too much drink one time will increase the sweating and further increase the loss of the electrolytes such as sodium, potassium. As a result, people often have a feeling that the more water they drink, the thirstier they are. Thirdly, drinking too hastily may cause hiccup or abdominal distention. The correct way is to drink slowly and little each time, so as to fully moisten the mouth and throat, and effectively alleviate the sense of thirst.

Thirdly, the amount of water varies from person to person.
For a normal and healthy person, the amount of water he should drink can be determined by the urine color. The normal urine color should be yellow. Relatively dark urine color means more water should be supplemented; and light urine color means that the person drinking too much. For the patients, they should pay much more attention to the amount of water they should take in. For example, for a person suffering from fever, the loss of water from the respiratory tract is much more than usual time. What’s more, fever will result in higher temperature, and the evaporation of moisture from the skin will also be increased. As a result, for these people, they should drink more water appropriately.
